Board Stretcher
This logo was made for a builder for his new building project.
I created the design in Adobe Illustrator. I scanned the image of a circular saw blade and incorporated it into the design.
Bluegrass Music Association
This design was made for the Bluegrass Music Association as a run of T-shirts they sold at bluegrass festivals.
The design was first created as a linoleum block print, which I cleaned up in Photoshop and Illustrator. I made the layout for the lettering in Illustrator, which I transferred to a linoleum block and carved. I brought the printed lettering back into Photoshop to polishing and then into Illustrator to incorporate it into the river scene.
Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection
I wanted to create a design based around the inlay on Erica’s beautiful heirloom fiddle. Erica sent me a photo of the design and the rest of design fell into place.
I traced the inlay and created the crosshatch lines of the fiddle in Photoshop. Then I imported the fiddle into Illustrator and added the text.
Ghost of Paul Revere
I made this design while I was in the band Ghost of Paul Revere back in 2011. They’ve also used it as a album cover for their second record and profile picture for social media accounts.
I first made skeleton and banjo image and then I made the layout for the lettering by cutting out the letters and centering it on the banner. Then I transferred the image onto a linoleum block and carved the design. I imported the scanned image into Photoshop to clean it up and later Illustrator to convert to vector.
Anchor Wellness
I co-created this design with my wife Joanna Govan when we opened up our massage therapy practice in 2015. I based the idea of Celtic patterns and the name of our business.
The design was made first on paper, then scanned into Photoshop where it was cleaned up before being converted to vector in Illustrator.
Darlin Corey
I made this design for the duo musical group. With photos of Matt’s guitar and Erica’s fiddle I began the design process, and made linoleum block prints which I scanned into Photoshop to clean up and then imported into Illustrator to convert to vector.
Old Hat Stringband
Musical duo Steve and Whitney wasn’t sure what they wanted for their logo, so I started by taking photos of their instruments and began designing from there. Once I had a layout we were all happy with I made linoleum block prints of the instruments, scanned them into Photoshop to cleanup and later pulled into Illustrator to convert to vectors and add lettering.
Preston & Curry
I made this design for the musical duo Mike and Kim. I had them send me photos of their instruments and I started designing based from a few brainstorming session we all had. The instruments were carved/printed from linoleum and brought into Photoshop for cleaning. I designed the rest of the image in Illustrator.
Puffin
I made this design for a three color T Shirt design when I took a Screen printing workshop in Portland ME. The design was carved and printed from linoleum and scanned into Photoshop for cleaning up.
I burned three screens: white background, orange beak and black outline and made a run of about 50 tshirts.
Humpback Whale
The original design was made carved into linoleum and printed as a 5 block process. I scanned each layer into Photoshop and cleaned it up, added the sky details and converted each layer into half-tones for screen printing.
Creole Jam
The theme for this weeks illustration is "Turtle". I had a very clear cartoon running in my head for this theme. I imagined a music video for the Willie Nelson song "Blue Eyes Crying Rain". It involved Willie portrayed as a turtle (of course) and singing two part harmonies with another turtle. I realized quickly that there was just no way I was going to pull that off in a week with the amount of detail I need. So taking inapiration from that idea, I went for a scene with original characters (sorry Willie) and moved the setting a bit more east from deserts of Texas to the bayous of Louisiana where I can imagine a couple of traveling creole turtles eating beans, drinking hooch, telling stories and singing some ole creole songs. Turtles carry their home on their back and I thought that the caravan life is much like the life of a turtle. I loved adding the details with this one like the jug and the skillet, and I would've loved to make these characters move around and sing. Who knows... maybe an incarnation of that music video animation will happen one day?

This digital illustration came from a weekly illustration challenge I participated with my friends. This was last week's prompt: "Crash”
"The Raid"
This digital illustration came from a weekly illustration challenge I participated in with my friends. The prompt was “Sand”. This piece was inspired by a Paul Neruda called "Ode to a Seagull".
"The Gnome Ride"
This digital illustration came from a weekly illustration challenge I participated in with my friends. The prompt was “Gnome” and was inspired from riding my bicycle in the Angus Glens.
